An average guy from an average world.
When he joined the army and the recruiter told him to state his name, he replied "Harris, sir. John E."
The recruiter entered Harris, Johnny. When he corrected the enlistment specialist "No, sir. With an E." his name was re-entered as Johnnie.
He didn't have the nerve to correct the recruiter a second time, so now he's forever on record as Johnnie Harris, although he's never gone by Johnny/ie before in his life.

Training:
Trained as a combat rifleman with both laser and energy weapons
Certified to drive standard, wheeled vehicles SWVs, Trakkers (halftracks) and Treads (anything with tracks or "feet")
Skills:
He displayed an aptitude for electronics and navigation, as well as mobile unit tactics, and was therefore recommended for Field Officer Training.
He's currently enrolled as a Jr LT. He worries that maybe it's a mistake to place him among other officers, but ever hesitant to disagree, he hasn't spoken up in doubt of his recommending CO.

He doesn't consider himself a great leader or speaker, but when he talks, people listen. He has a very matter of fact way of analyzing a situation and making what he feels are obvious observations. Because he's so to the point and doesn't over-embellish, people tend to think he's giving orders. These natural knacks for being understood and obeyed are what got him noticed and recommended as an officer.
He's a good student and a patient teacher.
He catches on quick and has no issue with teaching the next guy in line.
